## About Arabelle Bottorff
Arabelle was born and raised in Hamburg, Germany, and studied law and English at the University of Hamburg. She first visited Maui in 1993, fell in love with the island, and married here in 1995 — barefoot in the sand, to Hawaiian music. That feeling became Ancient Hawaiian Weddings. ## The ʻohana (team)
Ancient Hawaiian Weddings works with a long-standing circle of local Hawaiian officiants, musicians, hula dancers, conch-shell blowers, chanters, florists, photographers and videographers (including photographer Michael Hannig). Couples become part of this ʻohana ("family") on their wedding day.

## Maui elopements
Intimate, authentic and full of Aloha. Every elopement is personally coordinated by Arabelle, who is also with the couple on the wedding day. She helps them choose the beach (she knows which ones are actually quiet and beautiful, not just popular on social media), connects them with the right vendors, handles the permits and paperwork, and makes sure the day flows without a single thing for them to worry about.

## Hawaiian wedding traditions
A Hawaiian ceremony weaves real custom: the exchange of fragrant flower leis (a circle of love with no beginning or end); a Hawaiian minister's blessing; the deep call of the pū (conch shell) to the four directions; an oli (chant) of welcome; and often hula and a Ti-leaf Maile lei for the groom.

## Flowers, leis & bridal beauty
Flowers are at the heart of every Hawaiian ceremony — orchid and Ti-leaf Maile leis (exchanged before the rings, the older Hawaiian custom), haku flower crowns, tropical bouquets and flower circles in the sand. The pink lokelani rose is Maui's own flower. Bridal hair & make-up can be done in your room before the ceremony. Both are part of the arrangements or available à la carte.

## Trash the Dress (day-after photo session)
A post-wedding or day-after photo session where the couple wears their attire into the ocean, sand or wild terrain for dramatic, unconventional portraits. Since the dress and suit won't be needed anymore, there's freedom to get them wet, sandy or windswept. It's added on to an existing photo package, since this kind of shoot entails a lot of preparation — inquire about fees. It works beautifully for vow renewals too.

## How to get married on Maui (logistics)
- Hawaii marriage license: apply online, US$65 state fee + US$5 to the licensing agent. No waiting period, valid 30 days, no witnesses required.
- A ceremony on a public Maui beach requires a State of Hawaii commercial-use permit for an unencumbered beach (plus liability insurance) — Ancient Hawaiian Weddings secures it.
- No residency requirement: couples from anywhere, including Germany and the rest of Europe, can marry on Maui. An apostille is available so the marriage is recognised at home.
- Same-sex weddings are warmly welcomed. Hawaii's Civil Union Law took effect on January 1, 2012, giving same-sex partners the same rights and privileges as marriage; every beach, arrangement, lei and Hawaiian blessing on this site applies exactly the same.
- Vow renewals use the same arrangements and need no license.
